Storybook Limited Edition Portraits ~ Special Portraits, Special Pricing & £500 in Prizes!!!

I have been wanting for sometime to create something a little different using props and clothing that really appeals to me.  Its taken a while to come up with the concept and to acquire the necessary items.  But I've finally done it.

I am so pleased to introduce our Storybook Collection which is about small children in adorable outfits surrounded, in some cases, by beautiful vintage type props on a more traditional background to give that storybook sort of feel.  Often these images will actually contain an old storybook or two to add to the look.

And as part of this collection we have created and are slowly building this collection of storybook type artwork to be added to our portraits so that the children themselves can be part of the story.  I love this look and have been fortunate enough to team up with another fantastic photographer and artist who will be building this collection with me.  Her name and contact details will be revealed as soon as she is ready to introduce this product range to her own market.

The Cuttest Little Creature (a baby Shih Tzu) I Ever Did See

I say creature, rather than dog, puppy or even animal only because as I looked through the images I had created on more than one occasion she looked like more like an animated character in a film than any dog I'd ever met. Weighing in at just over 4lbs she was little more than a ball of fur, adorable in every way.

Once again my work day felt very little like work. I love creating pieces such as these and the bonus of puppy cuddles is simply wonderful. This one above is a particular favourite of mine. The scales are quite accurate so its nice to have a keepsake that includes just how small a new puppy is. This family will always have this as a reminder, not that this little on will grow particularly big.

This image above is quite easy to create because puppies naturally try to climb out, yet they aren't big enough to get themselves out. This results in quite a captive audience giving us some great portraits.

Here again this little girl looks like a ball of fluff. I kept thinki…

To Blog or Not to Blog? That is the Question.

Each year I have the goal of blogging, on average, once a week. That would give me 52 posts over the course of one year. Any guesses as to how close I managed to get????

45, thats how many and that was in a good year. More often than not I don't even come close, like this year for example. Once you fall out of the habit its hard to get back in. So here I am now, trying to get back in but I find myself wondering should I bother?. Is this getting me anywhere? Is anyone even reading my posts? Should I carry on or drop this and alleviate one unnecessary stress in my life? Opinions welcome. Of course a lack of opinions will be quite telling also.

Years ago, when blogging first came about, it was deemed as a way of drumming up business. Regular blog posts keeps our content current and likely to come up in search engines therefore we are more likely to appear in a potential clients search for our services. Over time this actually became a really enjoyable part of my role as a self employ…

Portraits Even a Teenager Boy Loves

Finally I've had the opportunity to photograph a young man in my studio again. And funnily enough this was the second time that week which is absolutely superb. In both cases these young men were just as enthusiastic to be involved as I was, which is something I don't often get when I'm working with very young children, my usual subjects. With young children I find my energy in their cuteness. But with young adults I get energy from their excitement over how the portraits are working out. I get such a buzz from the experience and that can keep me going for hours, often editing the photos straight after the shoot for hours more.

Shoots for teenagers is something I've been wanting to focus on for some time. Its not something that I often get asked for though unfortunately. It tends to be parents of very young children who want to capture moments that are slipping through their fingers at lightening speed. Maybe its teenage moodiness that means these moments don't fe…

Lighting Workshops in Scotland - A Look at What We Covered

I'll apologise now for the length of this blog post. Although I began it as just a summary of the my time away in Scotland it has quickly become a recap for those who attended the course. And it turns out I have a lot more to say than I anticipated.  So if this is too much detail then just feel free to look at the pictures.

It was my intention when setting out to do these workshops that I provide the type of lighting course I would have wanted when I was starting out.  I wanted to include all the elements that took me several workshops and seminars over several years to piece together, some of which I'd not actually taken the time to fully appreciate until recently. So I began with the basics and worked my way up to include all that is necessary to understand light for good, consistent portraiture.

We began with light patterns and their uses, the position of the lights to achieve the various light patterns and the catchlights you'd expect to see for the patterns.

I began m…

5 Reasons you Should Consider Getting a Professional Headshot

Headshots, or profile pictures are becoming a requirement of so many tools we regularly use or reference today. From Facebook to Linked In, Instagram to Twitter and often any website that represents a company for which you work or own will have a place to include a photograph that is meant to show your audience who you are. And how you present yourself there will tell your audience so much about you.

1. A profile picture is your first opportunity for your audience to see you. Its often the first impression you make and we all know you only have one chance at a first impression. A professional photographer has the skills to show you in the best, most suitable way to give a great first impression.

(These headshots were created for recruitment firm Optima UK who asked to have their logo placed behind them. I think it makes these headshots quite eye catching and they should do their job well.)

2. Using a professional to create your headshot will convey your professionalism to your audience.…
