Did you know we use the best framer in town?

(The Frame Game, located beside the Hinckley Train Station and with parking out front)

For nearly 10 years now we've been using The Frame Game for all our framing needs. In the past I've shopped around and visited other framers for quotes. As a business owner its part of my job to make sure I have the best product for my customer at the best price I can find.  Although I occasionally come across slightly lower pricing the cost savings has never been enough to lose the quality that I have always had from The Frame Game.  As always you get what you pay for and I am paying for quality products that I never have to worry about.
Jo, the owner of the Frame Game, has fantastic attention to detail. I know that when I pick up my orders I never need to examine them. I trust they will be done to my standards and in these 10 years I've never had to ask her to reframe anything.
(Notice that she is holding the glass up to clean beneath it - I offer low reflection glass and as you can see, its as if its not even there)

Jo has all the necessary equipment and the space needed to ensure the framing is clear of dust and the prints will look beautiful behind the glass for many years to come. This includes a drymounting machine which she uses for each and every print she frames for me which means my images will not warp over time. She also has a pressured air machine enabling her to blow away any fragments or dust that can appear beneath the glass if not careful. These tools are vital to a professional framer.
She offers huge choice when it comes to frame mouldings. I like to limit what I offer my clients so as not to make things too confusing but occasionally I come across a client with specific requirements and I know I can ring up Jo and she'll be able to find what we need. The same goes for her own clients. She is often able to locate the moulding needed to match a clients existing frames.
(Jo has more than this tucked away in various drawers too)

And she doesn't just do framing either.  See that lovely and massive painted canvas hanging in the corner, next to the boy in the rugby uniform. That was a painting brought back on a roll of canvas from Bali and together with the help of her ever so handy husband, Jo was able to stretch and wrap it for her client.
(The image of the boy in the rugby uniform is one of mine - notice the absence of reflections on the glass, thats due to the low reflection glass we use)

Not only that, but she also sells a collection of these sculptures which have proven very popular.  The company is called Edge Sculpture and you can find them here.

I am quite confident that I am using the best framer in town. In fact I'd go much farther than just town.  There are fewer and fewer framers all the time and the few that are left just can't match Jo's facilities and quality. Add to it that she has parking right outside her shop makes her the obvious first choice. So if you are looking at getting any framing done, visit The Frame Game. And if you don't mind, tell Jo I sent you.

Portraits Even a Teenager Boy Loves

Finally I've had the opportunity to photograph a young man in my studio again. And funnily enough this was the second time that week which is absolutely superb. In both cases these young men were just as enthusiastic to be involved as I was, which is something I don't often get when I'm working with very young children, my usual subjects. With young children I find my energy in their cuteness. But with young adults I get energy from their excitement over how the portraits are working out. I get such a buzz from the experience and that can keep me going for hours, often editing the photos straight after the shoot for hours more.

Shoots for teenagers is something I've been wanting to focus on for some time. Its not something that I often get asked for though unfortunately. It tends to be parents of very young children who want to capture moments that are slipping through their fingers at lightening speed. Maybe its teenage moodiness that means these moments don't fe…

A Beautiful New Dress Lovingly Handmade

Recently I had the opportunity to work with a wonderful woman, Nedine, who made this gorgeous dress for me. You can find Nedine here. She specialises primarily in making elaborate costumes but is branching out into dresses as well. Together we shared ideas for this piece and visited Birmingham to check out a large fabric store for inspiration and of course fabric. The end result is this.

I'm in love with lace and flowing dresses. We saw lots of beautiful lace and one day I hope to work up to something that will include some of the incredible (but very expensive) lace we saw while out together. I had no idea lace was that expensive. I knew good lace wouldn't be cheap but never realised how quickly the price went up to a range quite far from my current budget. So we decided to start relatively small, before investing in lace that was in some cases more than 10 times the cost of the lace used here. I can't imagine how scary that is to work with.

I love the dress, the quality …

Here's What I Got Up to with Bowens at TPS?

Well we are finished once again for another year. It comes and goes so quickly these days and I spend most of it both loving and fearing the experience. I'm someone who thoroughly enjoys speaking to an audience but loathes the anticipation of it all. Well thats not strictly true. I look forward to the event until just before it when the nerves take over and turn my stomach upside down. And then when its all over I want to do it all over again. I'm already thinking of ideas for next year. (If you have anything you wish to see please get in touch. New ideas are always welcome)
I have to admit I was pretty impressed with the turnout for the demos on the Bowens stage. Each time I participate in one of these events I wonder just how many people will be interested in what I have to say. And each time I feel honoured and proud to see such a large audience. It was a fantastic experience and one I feel very lucky to be a part of. I asked for these images to be taken not because I like…

Portraits of Another Gorgeous French Bulldog

I can't say enough how much I adore photographing this breed of dog. They just seem so photogenic to me, with so much character and such a lovely temperament. I think I could photograph these sweet things everyday.
This one was a little frightened being on the wooden boxes. We weren't sure really why. It wasn't too tall that she couldn't jump down if she wished but for some reason we struggled to get her to settle. She just remained glued to the spot, which I suppose helped us in a way. In my attempt to get her to settle we tried a variety of boxes to see if she felt more stable on different ones and I think we finally got there. There is something about having the dogs sitting or standing on these wooden boxes that really appeals to me. And the ones in the boxes I think are just so sweet.
The beanbag was a little easier. She certainly looked more comfortable but keeping her there was a little more difficult. When she wanted down she just left. But for the most part s…

Portraits of a Beautiful Young Woman and Her Guitar

You may remember a while back when I did a casting call looking for teenage boys and girls. Well this is the girl I chose. I had quite a specific look in mind, one which included really long hair. I have always had a thing for long hair. The choice also became quite simple when this young lady put herself forward as she is someone I've been photographing through school for several years and she is a past member of the Hinckley Athletics Club where she has been coached by my husband for nearly as many years. He's always had a soft spot for her, being one of his first members which helped my decision. When I have projects where I want to work with a model rather than a paying client I like to use friends or past clients whenever possible as it enables me to give something to those who have been loyal to me.

Wallis has been a pleasure to work with. She is a stunning, confident young woman. In addition, she could bring props with her that I love. I've been wanting to photogra…
